Spencer’s first hyper in Bengaluru

Must Read

Spencer’s Retail Limited opened its first hyper store in Bengaluru, its 29th in the country. Spread across 15,000 square feet in Koramangala, the store has a speciality and organic foods section, an extensive fish and meat counter, and a variety of takeaway food options. Café Coffee Day, Bread Talk, Srikrishna Sweets and Rajdhani have also opened shop-in-shops there.

Aiming to be India’s largest ‘food first’ retailer, the company plans to launch 4-5 more hyper stores in Bengaluru in the current fiscal.

Speaking to media at the launch, Atanu Batabyal, vice president, southern operations, Spencer’s, said: “We intend to focus more on bigger formats, and our target is to have 30 more hyper markets across the nation by March 2009.”

Batabyal marked out real estate as the major impediment to growth; he said that one of the biggest challenges is getting right retail space for hyper formats.
