Palme gets tough with copycats

Palme Middle East 2008, a trade show dedicated to the Middle East’s varied sectors including entertainment, events, shopping malls, and commercial and residential developments place, has enforced zero-tolerance policy on counterfeit goods and trademark infringement.

The show will be organised on April 27-29 in Dubai. Companies applying for participation at the upcoming event were found to be infringing copyright and patent protection legislation. IIR, the event organisers, announced that such companies will see their stands closed or their products removed from the exhibition.

Group director of Palme, Neil Hickman, said: “Original manufactures and their authorised agencies exhibiting at our shows are understandably upset that copycat manufacturers are allowed to exhibit at certain other industry events. Having suffered ourselves from copycat events, we fully appreciate the considerable investment in research and development, not to mention the marketing budgets deployed to build brands.”

Palme is taking a tough stand against the copycats to support legitimate companies in the professional audio, light and AV industries, whose long-term investment in product development and branding is threatened by counterfeiters.

“We have decided to make our stance public, not only to protect our exhibitors’ brands and trademarks, but also to support the industry as a whole by driving out counterfeit goods as also those who market them,” added Hickman.
