Reliance Retail launches hypermarket in Ahmedabad

RelianceMart is open now at Iskon Mall, SG Highway, Ahmedabad. The hypermarket is the third retail format from Reliance Retail Ltd – the other two being Reliance Fresh (supermarket) and Reliance Digital (consumer electronics concept store).

Spread across 165,000 square feet of shopping area, RelianceMart is so far the largest hypermarket in India and offers more than 95,000 products across categories ranging from fresh produce, food and grocery, non-food FMCG, and consumer durables and IT, to apparel and accessories, footwear, home care, lifestyle, and automotive accessories.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director, Reliance Industries Ltd, conveyed this message on the occasion: “Organised retail has the potential to trigger socio-economic transformation on an unprecedented scale in our country and will bring about enormous spin-off benefits to the Indian economy and its various constituents.”

“The launch of RelianceMart is yet another step by Reliance Retail towards providing an international shopping experience to all our customers at unmatched affordability and guaranteed quality. RelianceMart marks the achievement of another milestone in our effort to unleash a retail revolution in India.”

The mart offers some unique services to shoppers including tailoring, shoe repair, watch repair, a photo shop, gifting services and laundry services. The store also houses its own fresh bakery serving “hot off the oven” bread and bread products as well as local savouries, an ice-cream train for kids, and a chakki. The mart will also sell jewellery and fashion jewellery in its lifestyle section.

RelianceMart will house a health and wellness store providing pharmaceutical drugs and other wellness products. For the shopper’s convenience, the store also has a cafeteria providing quality food and beverages for ready consumption, an ATM, and a customer service/membership desk.

The hypermarket also launched a host of Reliance’s own brands in select categories – First Class, Network, Netplay, TeamSpirit and Sparsh in men’s and women’s formal/casual and ethnicwear, DNM-X in the jeans category for men and women, Panda for kids clothing, and Grip in the luggage section. The footwear category will feature Zig in formalwear, Hi Attitude for semi-formal, Tosco as partywear, and Monza for sports.

The mart has 61 checkout counters and has introduced mobile POS system for faster checkouts. The mart will continue to offer all its customer RelianceOne, a common membership and loyalty programme across all its formats.

RIL plans to have a pan-India presence by opening over 30 RelianceMart hypermarkets this year and over 500 by the end of 2010.
