Must Read

The Delhi High Court has given its final verdict in favour of New Delhi-based Milano Impex Pvt. Ltd to market the international footwear brand Egle in India. With this judgement, the yearlong dispute over the ownership of Egle brand, between Milano Impex Pvt Ltd (the current brand licensee) and Egle Footwear Pvt. Ltd (the company that initially brought the brand) comes to an end.

According to the judgement given by the high court, Milano Impex received the sole right of using the trademark Egle in respect of the footwear, reliable sources told Indiaretailing.

The European footwear brand was introduced by Egle Footwear, a company jointly promoted by Alok Rai, MD, Milano Impex, (and former director, Egle footwear), and Rattan Tandon, director, Egle Footwear, in 2003. Since last year, the matter was pending in the high court of Delhi for the ownership of trademark after a dispute between the management.

“Through its strong product lines, innovative advertising and diversified distribution channels, now our sole objective will be to profitably grow its worldwide operations while leveraging the Egle brand, one of the most recognised names in the footwear industry worldwide,” Rai said in a statement.

Egle has a presence in five countries across the globe and sells more than 1.6 million pairs annually. It is retailed through premium footwear stores across India including Metro Shoes, Regal and INC 5.
