Ingram plans to enter retail

Ingram Micro is said to have a new division in place to deliver Point of Sale (POS) and data capture equipment to the retail industry. This new initiative is said to be a part of the company’s global strategy to invest into adjacent markets.

The company’s new division’s focal point will be on retail POS equipment, such as barcode scanners, receipt printers and weighing units, Automated ID and Data Capture (AIDC) products. They range from RFID chips, smartcards and access cards through to biometrics hardware.

At present the company has vendors like NCR, Cherry, Toshiba Tec, Datalogic, Printronics and MYOB Retail and Hospitality Management on board. More vendors are expected to join by July.
